Why is the answer d while all three mean the same except convolution?

The sentence itself is incorrect. A degree is awarded AT an event, not IN an event. Though all three are words for a gathering of people, they are different types of gatherings. Your dictionary explains the difference. It would be unusual for a degree to be awarded at a convention or conference.
