Which is the better sentence? "Most of the knowledge was not handed down and subsequently was lost to the world. " Or "Much of the knowledge was not handed down and subsequently lost to the world. "

Either one is correct. 'Most' would mean more than half of the knowledge and 'much' would mean a great amount, but not necessarily more than half.
