Usage of the word the couple
Is it correct to say the couple has a new baby or the couple have a new baby?
Thank you for relying my question!
In this context, 'couple' is a single entity, so the singular 'has' should be used. In other contexts, 'couple' may be plural, however. 'Couple' can mean two things and would take a plural verb.
The couple has a new baby.
A couple of cars were at the stoplight.
