Washington Irving would use a emphasis on the nature and the supernatural in his stories and his story “The Devil and Tom Walker” depicted nature as mysterious. Tom walked through a swamp that was so thick that when it was noon it would be still be very dark. At times, water logs would look like alligators floating in the water. The supernatural realm also played great role in the story. The devil seemed to have ability to trade riches for a person's soul. Tom, having sold his soul, sought to outsmart the devil by enlisting the help of another supernatural power, God, by carrying a bible. In the end, the devil took his soul and he learned a lesson he could not forget.

Washington Irving would use an emphasis on Nature and the supernatural.

The Bible and the Devil should also have capital letters.

Also, "he learned a lesson he would not forget."

Washington Irving emphasized Nature and the supernatural in his stories.

His story - “The Devil and Tom Walker” - depicted Nature as mysterious. Tom walked through such a thick swamp that it was dark, even though it was only noon. At times, water logs looked like alligators floating in the water.

The supernatural also played a great role in the story. The Devil traded riches for a person's soul. Tom, having sold his soul, sought to outsmart the Devil. He enlisted the help of another supernatural power, God, by carrying a Bible. In the end, the Devil took his soul and learned a lesson he would not forget.
