period?
My daughter's middle name is the letter J. It is not an abbreviation. It is listed as J on her birth certificate. When writing her name(Emily J) should she use a period or not.

If it's not an abreviation it doesn't need the period. She will, however, almost certainly be given one by anyone who ever writes her name out in full. It can be annoying but she'll get used to it. (As I've had to get used to seeing my name written without the accented 'â'. Big thumbs up to Grammarly for allowing it here!)
