This sentence does not seem to flow how Id like it to... any suggestions?
Since the late 1970's, which brought the invention of the VHS and resulting spread of readily available pornography, censorship vs. free speech has often been a passionately debated topic among parents, teachers, fundamentalist Christians and literary artists.
It is a rather long sentence, so I hate to add more. But the easiest fix I can think of is to add the words "a time" after the first comma. The word "which" is sort of hanging out there. You want it to refer to the 1970s, but instead it refers to "since the 1970s."

I never suggest adding more words to fix a long sentence. Less is more, edit.
