If you did, I would not assume that you were also including your nieces. I would think you only meant your nephews. If, in context, you also mentioned having nieces, I would assume you were excluding them in your statement.

You should not use the letter "i" as a stand-alone without capitalizing it. I do not believe that the term "nephews and nieces" equates to "nephews."
