Conditional tense

I'm wondering if the following sentence correctly uses the conditional tense. The speaker uses African-American English.

"If I had brought my umbrella, I would have never got wet."

I don't see anything particularly "African-American" about the sentence, but it's almost correct: "got" should be "gotten."

If I had brought my umbrella, I would have never gotten wet.

The form here is "past unreal conditional," where the first clause describes something in the past that didn't happen, and the second clause describes something that would/wouldn't have happened as a result.

Hope that helps! Holly
