Passive voice

How do I write this sentence without using "got" or "was"?

See example:

In 1943, Kennedy's PT boat was rammed by a Japanese destroyer and sunk (John F. Kennedy).

Change the subject to 'a Japanese destroyer'. Now the subject is performing the action of the verb putting the sentence in active voice. 'Sank' is the past tense of 'sink'. 'Sunk' is the perfect tense and would require 'had'.

In 1943, a Japanese destroyer rammed and sank Kennedy's PT boat.
