Does "wanna go hang?" work?

Hi. A few days back I was watching a TV show and there, a teenage girl casually asked a boy to hang out, saying "wanna go hang?". I wonder if that way of asking to hang "out" really works. Is it because they were teenagers who often omit words in conversation or did I just mishear the line?

Both "hang out" and the shortened "hang" are slang for spending time together. There is an incredible amount of slang used in conversational English. Some usages are widely understood, others are regional idioms, or even used only amongst a small group of friends.
