As with any language, practice reading, writing, listening, and speaking will improve your skills.

The difference between a subject and an object is simple. In active speech, the subject is the word we use to talk about the noun (person, place, thing, or idea) that is doing an action (VERB). Every sentence has a subject.

Mary plays piano.

(Mary is the subject. She is the noun who is doing something, in this case "to play")

Santa Claus gives gifts.

Cats like fish.

The object is the noun that is receives tha action being performed by the subject. Not all sentences will have an object.

Mary plays piano.

(Piano is the noun that is receiving the action of Mary's playing.)

Santa Claus gives gifts.

Cats like fish.
