My cousin lives in western Nebraska.  (directions are only capitalized as parts of titles or when we are referring to regions like "The South".)

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. lead the Civil Rights Movement in the sixties. (It is the title of a specific movement.)

The bridge crossed First and Second Avenues. (These are names of specific streets.)
 

My grandmother depends on Social Security. (You are referring to a specific welfare program.)
