Usage of the word "trespass"

An answer key for a solved question paper I had said that the correct usage is to"trespass a gate". Do you "trespass the gate" or do you "cross the gate"?

 Do you "trespass the gate"? This sentence means that you are crossing the gate without the owner's permission.

Do you "cross the gate"? Is normally used when you enter or exit a gate in a place where there is no need to take permission.
