How can this statement be put into active voice.

See example:

Passive voice is not incorrect English, but active voice is prefered in most cases.  To put this sentence into active voice, it is necessary to introduce the entities that have established your proposition. I would leave this in passive voice, but here is how it would be as active.

Researchers have established that HIV-1 infections gradually destroys immune cells reducing the reliability of utilizing signal joint T cell receptor excision circle (sjTREC) as a genetic marker for estimating human age.

Would it not be better to have one of the following? "...infection gradually destroys..."or"...infections gradually destroy..."
