You need a comma after 'teacher'. I do have a question, though. Did the students make the films for a school contest, or did Mr. Mull collect the films for a school contest? It should 'middle aged man'. 'Middle aged' is an adjective, while 'middle age' is a noun.

If the students entered the films:

Mr. Mull, a black, middle aged, film appreciation teacher, is collecting independent films made by his students for a school contest.

If Mr. Mull entered the films:

Mr. Mull, a black, middle aged, film appreciation teacher, is collecting independent films for a school contest that were made by his students.
