Brooming or Sweeping

Is it grammatically correct to say I broomed the floor where "broomed" is acting as a verb? I know that "sweeping" would be the better choice, but I 've seen many dictionaries defining broom as both a noun and verb. If you can't use it as a verb then why is it in the dictionary in the first place?

I've never used broom as a verb, and I've never heard anyone in the US use it. I checked four online dictionaries, and two had it as a verb and two didn't. It may be more common in other English speaking countries.
