What you have written is not a complete sentence.  A thesis statement is one or two sentences, usually at the end of the introductory paragraph, that summarizes the main argument or point of the essay that follows.  Sometimes it is helpful to write this after you have done your research and written the body of the paper.  It is easier to summarize after you know what needs to be summarized.
