need more clarification
the Grammarly program keeps saying that I should write ...and watched his son receive strike after the strike of lightning. I think it is incorrect but I am not certain. thanks Bradley

Something must have gone through Vader's head as he stood by and watched his son receive strike after strike of lighting.

I agree. Adding the article before the second strike makes no sense to me. It is software. It doesn't understand context, or it is interpreting the structure in a different way. You might want to change the end to strike after strike from the lightning.

I totally agree with Patty that the is unnecessary after strike after. But I much prefer the original strike after strike of lightning to her suggested strike after strike from the lightning; to me, the description loses a lot of its violent, visual potency with the addition of this preposition and article, neither of which is grammatically required.
