Is the following sentence okay the way it is?
and as I sometimes hoped, but couldn't be like her—to win friends, become loved by everyone—she made it look so easy.

No, it really makes little sense the way it is written and is not a sentence.
I sometimes wished I could be like her, able to win friends and be loved by everyone, but I couldn't. She made it look so easy.
If it is something you can't do, then you wish that you could. If it something that you might be able to do, then you hope that you will.
