usage of startling vs startlingly
Which word is correct in this sentence, startling or startlingly? If we were to dream of ghostly inhabitants, they would certainly be unreal yet we perceive these dream ghosts to be *startling* real.
And why would one be more correct than the other? Thanks.

Tolley is absolutely correct, and I also think that you need we would perceive, not we perceive in that sentence:
we would perceive these dream ghosts to be startlingly real or we would perceive these dream ghosts to be startling.

Oops, internet access issues resulted in my accidentally posting that twice. I am not, I repeat, NOT repeating myself for any rhetorical purpose.
