I think your being unnecessarily hard on yourself.  This sentence is very good. You were only missing a comma and you need to complete the last thought.

 

Therefore, it would be naïve to think that the very people enjoying the fruits of other people's labour would easily or willingly give up their leverage for the sake of those who are disadvantaged as a result (of what?).
